NES

NES is the Nintendo Emulator for iPhone.

NES emulates the hardware in a Nintendo entertainment system, allowing you to play games on your iPhone.

In order to use NES, you will need ROM images of games written for the Nintendo Entertainment System platform. ROM images are files containing the dumped instruction code from a physical cartridge, or compiled code from a public domain game.

When I play this game, I can really remember how I played this before on the real NES. Sounds are great (even better actually), graphics are really cool & we can even make use of the accelerator on the iPhone (total coolness!).

Here are some of my favorite games that I have in my NES application:

And here is my favorite NES game of all time!

You can get NES Emulator by Jonathan Zdziarski for free at Cydia.

You can get NES ROMs here. Take note this has 857 ROMs, eat your heart out

To put the NES ROMs on your iPhone, you need to do the ff.:

  1. OpenSSH into your iPhone (tutorial here)
  2. Go to var/root/media
  3. Make folder called “ROMs”
  4. Inside that new folder ROMs, create another folder called “NES”
  5. Drop your downloaded ROMs into the NES folder

So in short, your NES ROMs are in this location: var/root/media/ROMs/NES

With this on your iPhone, who needs a PSP?

WinterBoard

WinterBoard extends the springboard capabilities. Giving us more like ability to choose themes, icons, animated wallpapers, sounds and many more.

Basically, it gives your iphone a graphical overhaul!

I love this program, there are truly lots of themes out there to download. I most probably change themes everyday. I’ll post those themes I downloaded soon (by batch i guess).

This is definitely my favorite application and this is only available at Cydia for free.

Categories

Categories is an application that lets you put your applications into categories. Thus making your springboard more organized.

It’s pretty easy to use. You just press add and you just enter the name of the category you want to create, choose an icon, then add all the apps you want to enter under it.

This is indispensable as categories can help remove clutter in your springboard. Instead of having too many icons, you can organize them into just 5-7 icons. You won’t have to worry about the icon limit anymore (9 pages is the maximum for iPhone springboard).

I love love love this application, if you have a jailbroken iphone this is the application that you should get ASAP.

As you can see, we saved precious space in the springboard by placing those toy applications under the category, toys.  Cool, isn’t it

BossTool

This is a must-have application for your iPhone. It allows you to configure various tweaks & fixes related to unlocking, activating & other similar activities.

I mainly use this application to move fonts, ringtones & applications to the larger hard drive and set a link to it in order to free up space in the OS drive.

As a background, the iPhone has 2 disk partitions. The smaller is 500MB and is for OS Contents (including applications). The larger is for media and other (videos, music, photos, etc).

Since I don’t use my iphone as my main mp3 player, I don’t need that much space for music.. So I’d rather have lots of programs..

This is one app I can’t live without for my iphone. :)

  • Stop – Stops the vibration
  • Restart – Restart vibrating your phone, so it will vibrate for another 5 minutes
